I'm still in shock at the amount that Jacques Fath patterns fetch. $260 for a Jacques Fath Pin Tuck dress pattern.
Yowzers!!! Any of you have Jacques Fath patterns lying around? $262. This is more than I paid for an actual Fath dress (I won't rehash the details of the poor Fath dress.). Jacques Fath is an iconic designer and his original dress/suits rarely come up for auction. I'd love to see what the seamstress who won these patterns makes.
Jonathan Logan red vintage 50's dress $214. Oh my to dress this number up!
Lilli Ann Suit $636
40's Hannah Troy silk suit $152 Not quite my style but interesting none the less:)
Felt feather hat 40's $137. Love it.
Deco Saphire velvet gown $455. I've been very into deco lately so I hope to make a couple of outfits from this type of theme this year. Lovely draping.
40's velvet suit $100 excellent condition. Wow, the fit on this dress! I thought this was a steal.
Very cute fit and flair polka dot coat (40's per listing) $310
Black wool and mink coat 60's $910
Brocade 50's party dress $700. Maybe this will be showing up at Viva Vegas?
Lilli Ann Red Princess coat $565
Lilli Ann Suit $533. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Lovely deco dress $91. Great deal for whoever won this beauty.
Amazing 40's glam $197
This dress is so pretty, wish I would have bid on it 20's flapper dress $90. The only thing that kind stopped me was that I didn't quite see deco with it.
30's deco gown $390
Here is something I did win a sterling silver rhinestone pin for $15. It's very lovely in person. Sometimes it's best to go with the no brands (sterling) as if it had Eisenberg attached to it, I'm sure it would have been many multiples more.
Charles James 1932 duplicated in 1979 $934 Kind of surprised that a replica would fetch so much. I'm sure there is a big story behind it. This dress might just end up in a museum.
30's chiffon dress, very cute $162
Amazing tilt hat, total glamour. Love it! So, did someone else for $210:)
I thought it would be interesting to share some of the highest auctions on ebay. Jade bracelet 19c ebay sold for $6,100. Amazing! Forget Bakelite lol (Well, maybe not check out next auction results.)
So, when I said forget Bakelite, I thought it might be interesting to see what the price sold was recently on ebay for the highest price Bakelite piece of jewelry.
30's geometric bracelet $5,000!!!! Any of you have one of these in your jewelry box? Holey moley!!! I love the modern design but boy, what a price!! It's a piece of plastic lol.
This one is so funny. A banana necklace $3,400 (Bakelite). I guess when we see these fruit Bakelite accessories at cheap prices we should snap them up.
A little history on Bakelite
Bakelite is an early plastic that was invented by Dr. Leo Baekeland. Within 15 years of it's invention, it was seen in all kinds of products from plugs to jewelry. Bakelite jewelry could be seen in the 1920's. Bakelite jewelry is highly sought after. When the Great Depression hit, women (including socialites) turned to this type of jewelry. It's interesting how Bakelite appealed to the masses for fashion style. Bakelite became obsolete after modern day plastics were invented. Who knew a plastic piece of jewelry could command the amounts it does today?
Any of you own Bakelite? I think the cherry necklaces are rather cute but the only thing I own that is Bakelite is one bracelet, nothing extravagant:) Saving up for an Eisenberg dress clip:)

Oh my word, for the price of that Banana necklace, one could easily buy a used car with a few years on it. Yes, it's cute as a button (cute as a banana? :) ), but that price is mind-blowingly high!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your high low posts greatly, dear Joanna, and find myself wishing I'd found at least a couple of the lower priced auctions before they ended (1940s black velvet suit, I'm looking at you!).
♥ Jessica
It is mind blowing how much some of these items fetch! I agree, I just love that black velvet suit but I already have three black suits so I think I must stop looking at black in suits:)) It is amazing though!
DeleteI love when you do these posts! You have such good taste in things! The polka dot and red coats are my fave by far!! xox
ReplyDeleteI am very surprised at how much the Lilli Ann red coat went for! Just amazing!
DeleteUgh, what eye candy! That was both a pleasure & painful to read, haha. Man, regardless of how rich I was, I could never get myself to pay $5,000 for that Philadelphia bangle. (Even if I've *literally* had a dream where I found every color at the Goodwill... best dream ever?)
ReplyDelete<3 Sara
You and me both, I think I'd much rather have platinum and diamonds for that kinda money:)
DeleteUhhhh I'm going to be dreaming about those velvet Deco dresses for years.... so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLOL, I think I may have beat you too it:))
DeleteWow! I had no idea about the jacque fath patterns! I recently purchased a black jacque fath at an estate sale, but when i got it home and tried it on realized i would not be able to breathe if i wore it....it was so tight. Now i am curious about how much it will go for when i get around to ebaying it. I have several lucite purses but no bakelite items. That banana necklace was something else.
ReplyDeleteLisa, I hope you post pictures of it before you sell it. Do you know if it has the Joseph Halpert label as well? This will help to date it. If it was made after his death, it's not worth as much (generally speaking). But, you may have a nice jackpot on your hands:) Congratulations on your find!! I'm hoping to find one at a reasonable price one day! I had a dress but it didn't fit right so I sold it and then it got destroyed by the post office:(
DeleteI got a Philadelphia clamper and it's sister clamper as well.
ReplyDelete(Check Bakelite tag in my blog.)
That banana necklace is amazing.
I made one myself a while ago but nothing beats the original.
You got really good taste!
