V for Victory

I thought I would share this lovely hat.   It wasn't listed as a "Victory" hat when I bought it, but you can clearly see it has the patriotic V attached to it.  I also love the splash of red from the feather.

Coat is from the 1930's.   It's great to wear when the weather is a little nippy (or a lot nippy).   The coat does have a glamourous feel about it and I certainly feel transported when I wear it.  My husband isn't a big fan of fur but I find that accents of fur can be quite glamourous and this type of look was so much apart of the 30's and 40s that I just adore this coat. I was going to wear it into the city one day awhile back and my husband thought I'd get sprayed or something.  I thought he was a little extreme about it lol.  Have any of you had any rude encounters wearing vintage fur?   I'm like most vintage clothing lovers in that I wouldn't buy today's fur but why not enjoy this slice of history?  I'd much rather wear this coat than a fake fur accent from a Made In China coat from a department store.

On a different note, I've been hard at work trying to create some looks for an upcoming photo shoot.  I want to recreate "the New Look" outfit I've blogged about in the past.  I've been trying to avoid the corset route as it's difficult to maneuver in these buggers.  I've tried a retro girdle to see what effect this has and although subtle the corset is better.  I have to do some more thinking about this.

  1. Oh the V hat is divine!! I adore your beautiful 30s coat and I have no problem wearing vintage fur - the poor animal would be dead by now anyway;). I've never had any bad encounters, just curiosity. I don't think you'd get sprayed as vintage fur is everywhere now. You're amazing! xo

  2. That hat is so marvelous! It really has the look of a piece one could so easily see having been in a big budget Hollywood film of the day.

I second your thoughts about fur completely. I'd never buy modern real fur (there are so many excellent faux furs today that world really should stop using animals for their fur), but don't have issues buying or wearing vintage. It's better for the planet that stylish folks like us give these pieces new homes than they end up in a landfill somewhere.

  3. the hat is so perfect with this look! you have such a lovely sense of style. on the fur subject, i have honestly never worn real fur! although in my younger years, i had thought about buying this vintage fox fur scarf. in my mind, it was second hand and not being created "for me". i mean, you are reusing it, so i wouldn't be too worried about it!

    1. I understand those who can wear the stoles with heads and feet and I totally respect that they wear them, but I'm with you I can't quite go there if the head, feet, and tail are attached.

  6. Beautiful hat and coat!I would love to see the results of your New Look photoshoot.

I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing fur (vintage or modern), but I totally understand the reasons why vintage lovers are wearing fur.

  7. You look effortlessly glamorous in that incredible hat and coat. Like you I would never buy new fur, but I do wear the vintage fur passed down through the women family, in memory of them and their style.

  8. Real fur is warm. Seriously warm. That's the point of wearing it.
