A Lilli Ann Lady

I mentioned in my latest Lilli Ann post  that I would share with you a Lilli Ann lady in her element in 1956.  I found this image just randomly looking at some 50s photographs on ebay.  I know this sounds totally bazaar but I'm telling you it's true:)  I was saying to myself while looking at 1950s snap shots, "Wouldn't it be nice if I found a vintage lady wearing a Lilli Ann suit?"

She wasn't listed as wearing a Lilli Ann suit but once I saw her, I  immediately knew she was wearing a Lilli Ann suit.  She is quite chic in her Lilli Ann suit, accessories, and I'm sure wearing a nice tint of lipstick.  I wonder the event that she might be going to.  I'd love to see more vintage ladies wearing Lilli Ann, as I'm sure it was very popular during this period too.

Here is an ad of this suit from January 1956.  Via Flicker.

  1. Very nice picture! It's so nice to see real women wearing the garments from the ads back in the days!

  2. That's such an awesome piece of history, thank you for sharing! It's always interesting seeing vintage in its natural habitat, especially if it's something so similar to a piece that you own.
I will say, I love how the Lilli Ann suit from your previous post fits you, but you had mentioned considering getting it altered, and perhaps that's actually a good idea. As great on you as it already is, seeing the sharpness of her tailoring makes me think that it could look even better on you with some nipping and tucking. (I hope the unsolicted advice doesn't bother you, and feel free to delete my comment if it seems inappropriate.)

    1. Thank you so much for your honesty. You are completely right. These ladies back then had their suits tailored to their measurements. I know my suit in the previous post isn't quite right and I know with just a couple of tweaks it would be perfect. It is just a matter of finding the right person to make those adjustments because the jacket has a lining it could be a little difficult.

  3. What an amazing find! It IS great to see clothing in ads on a real person (real-world sizes!), and this lady was rocking her suit! It's so perfectly tailored and--to use Jessica's word--sharp, indeed! Perfectly fabulous!

  6. What serendipity to find the photo when you weren't looking. It is really interesting to see it worn by a non-model. Great as the suit is, I'd kill for her hat.

  10. Fantastic! It's so great to see a piece like this in its natural habitat. I love her ensemble... matching shoes and box purse, white (?) gloves, and I rather suspect that her hat matches the immense corsage she has on! Quite the sharply dressed lady indeed.

  11. I have a photo of my mother-in-law in her Lilli Ann suit. She would always say she got it when she did some modeling for them. I'd be happy to send you a copy if you would like.
