This video is interesting because it's in color but it doesn't start really getting interesting until 10-15 minutes in. The dialog isn't that great but the fashions are!
Check it out, the dresses the ladies are wearing are just lovely to see in color. Oh and towards the end the hats! Very rare to see all this in color for 1941.
Every time I see a vintage video like this, especially when it's in colour, I start wishing for the DeLorean from Back to the Future, which in this case I'd set the date squarely on 1941 for. I'm sure that each era and decade throughout time has had and will continue to have fans of it long after it's come and gone, but I can't help but think how in seventy years from now, it seems unlikely that folks of that era will be swooning up a storm over 2013's fashions the way we're all doing here today over these. Yet, I'd also bet you, that seven decades there will still be plenty of folks going just as weak in the knees as we did for the ones in this video. How could they not?Fashions like this are the epitome of beautiful mid-century style and will, I highly suspect, always have a devoted fan base.
Let's hitch a ride together:) I actually just recently watched all these episodes as my son was very much interested in them. It was fun to watch them again:)
Did you see "Molly's" gloves? I love the idea of a double layer glove. I don't think I've seen this before. So fabulous you can wear long gloves without having to take them on and off. Love this idea!
Watching this makes me think I need to record a fanfare to play when I get undressed down to my slip.
Did you notice her husband was reading a newspaper with a headline about women's suffrage? Would have still been a pretty new thing in '41 I suppose. What I really loved about this was the early 1940's American diction. What I would give to sound like that!
No missed that bit:) I watched the second part a few times to catch in all the details. I was very impressed by the information on slips. Bias cut and paneled what a great idea and doubtful to find this nowadays:)
Love new look fashion! How fascinating, thanks!
