Vogue 1949 part 1

Here are some grand images from a volume of vintage Vogue from 1949, so much inspiration and visual eye candy!

Check out those fabulous strappy shoes!

Stylish "rain wear" wouldn't you agree?

Look at the prints on these frocks!  "A memorable gift for mother.  About $15"

I love these prints!

  1. Oh my god, amazing pictures!

The shoes ad and the picture of the woman in yellow beach wear are my favourites!

  2. How utterly fabulous. Is this a whole book of vintage Vogue magazines?? I'd love to know the title if it's available in modern print, I will put it on my Christmas wish-list!!

    1. This was a "decommissioned" book from a library. I think they probably had it bound. I bought it from ebay. I like to search out for bound volumes when I can as they actually can be cheaper than buying them individually and due to them bound they are kept really nice. I actually also have a trade edition bound volume which I find fascinating from the Carlye Dress Company. It was a thrill when I saw a vintage sketch amidst the pages! Vogue and Bazaar are just amazing for vintage fashion inspiration!

  3. I love the 1940s suits from Lilli Ann. I often see them pop up on Etsy or Pinterest. They are so fabulous. I'd love to own one some day..

    1. They are just amazing! They do seem to be getting even more pricey lately. I try to look for any kind of deals I can when they come up for sale a few I've paid a premium for and a few I've gotten for great prices. I think it all balances out. But, you know when you get a Lilli Ann that it is quality. The good thing too is that if it isn't quite the right fit for you there is always a market to resell it.

  4. I have zero qualms with admitting that I quite literally gasped about seven times before I scrolled to the bottom of this magnificent array of late 40s images. Goodness gracious, what a bevy of style (and wishlist!) inspiration. Thank you so much for scanning and sharing these beauties with us, dearest Joanna.

  8. Ahhh, pardon me while I pick my jaw up off the floor... Ugh, I would do terrible things to have those green platforms. I wish it was easier to find old fashion mags! Lifes are easy, but vogue & harpers, etc... tough! What a score. I have a few bound 60s Vogues from the library I worked at in college - they were going to throw them out! Back in the day, the university had a book bindery as well, so they'd do that for all the periodicals, sounds like that's the case with yours as well. Winning!

Thank you so much for sharing!
