The Right Place At The Right Time

I've been really enjoying my foray into novelty skirt prints.  I've been keeping my eyes peeled for particular types of prints, mainly scenic in nature.   I've also got some great prints I need to sew up.  I'm really interested in making a paneled skirt and I keep waiting for the right print but I'm thinking I should just dig in and make one with one of the fabrics I already have.

A little over a week ago, I see this marvelous skirt pop up on LuckDryGoods.  This is a skirt that wouldn't have lasted long for sale.   It's also a rare store made skirt.  It fits well with no adjustments and it is really difficult to find 1950s novelty skirts that are in a regular size as I see so many with very tiny waist measurements.  This skirt print showcases boats and has a very painterly effect but when you look up close there is a lot of line details.  The color scheme is just beautiful.   I'm very happy with my purchase.   The sweater is also from LuckyDryGoods.  I saw it on the model and thought what a great combination.  I don't know about you but it's also a task to find matching sweaters and blouses to skirts.  There are so many wonderful things in the LuckyDryGoods etsy shop.  I encourage you all to take a look at their stock on Etsy.

I was also very happy that my ReMix shoes fit the color scheme as I have been looking for the right outfits to pair them with.

We also just recently put in a nice walkway to our home.  I'm ashamed to tell you about the before walkway:)

  1. I love that colour combination! And the print on that skirt is fabulous. I especially love the reflections in the water at the very bottom. It makes me want to paint!

  2. What a strikingly beautiful ensemble and skirt. I agree that it is a sophisticated, timelessly pretty painterly quality to it - as well as a peaceful quality thanks to the fact that boats on the water nearly always make me feel tranquil. Excellent finds (love the sweater, too) and example of a perfect summer into fall vintage ensemble.

  3. What a beautiful skirt!!!! I also love them but they are often so hard to find in more than 28" waist. The colors on this one are really great and can match so much others. Would love to see your collection!

  7. Great combination of colors! Love the ReMix shoes too. I've had my eye on that pair, and a few others, for a while. I keep hoping for a sale as they would be an investment for me. It's getting cooler in New England so it's almost time to pack away the skirts and sandals! Almost, but not yet. ;)

    1. I agree they really are an investment but they aren't fragile like a lot of vintage shoes and are quite comfortable and of course, love their styles:) Normally, I try to buy them on sale but I don't think these were ever going to go on sale:)

  9. That print is so beautiful, what an awesome find! It looks great with the sweater as well. The colors are so unusual - I love the dusty seafoam green of the sweater, and the rich burgundy in the skirt is very striking. That's some awesome luck coming across it.

  13. What a fantastic skirt! I suppose I'll have to bite the bullet soon and invest in one myself... I keep hoping the thrift shop gods will drop one into my lap, but no luck. You look lovely, and the sweater is such a perfect match.

  14. I would have bought the matching cardigan too-I mean, when something works, why mess with it? And it works-all of it right down to your lovely shoes and beautiful bangles. Remix has such nice shoes (way out of my budget, but I keep hoping the pair I want will show up used in my size on Ebay). That style seems to have a 20-30 year cycle where it keeps coming back (why not, it is a beautiful style?) but strangely enough I've never owned a pair. I should remedy that.

    1. I love this Janey:) I'm glad I am able to inspire you to purchase some of these wonderful novelty skirts. I love Remix shoes. If I know I plan to be walking for any period of time, I revert to shoes like this as vintage shoes can be fragile and they've lasted so long that I hate to put a lot of wear on them.
